Football

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL: THE CLUBS, COMPETITIONS AND PREMIERS (1885-1945). Printed in April 2023.

Between 1885 and 1945, there were almost 48,500 competitive open-age football matches played in Western Australia by 1616 clubs in 236 competitions and carnivals, using 317 different titles.

Western Australian Football: The Clubs, Competitions and Premiers (1885-1945) has used the resources of more than 200 newspapers to record the history of each of these competitions, including a short history, club affiliations, ladders, premiers and finals results during this era.

In addition, there is a complete A to Z list of clubs and their competition affiliations, an A to Z list of all known premiership winning clubs and more than 130 true tales from the first 60 years of football throughout the state.

The book, which was released on April 5, is almost 500 pages in length and is available for $50 per copy plus $16.50 postage via express post nationwide.

FOOTBALL IN WILUNA: A Statistical History (1909-1940). Printed in March 2023.

This 40-page book records the history of the Lake Way Football Association (1909) and the Wiluna Football Association (1929-1940).

The book is available for $5 per copy plus postage.

SATURDAYS IN THE SUN: A History of the Riverton Rostrata Cricket Club. Printed in 2021. (Available via the Riverton Rostrata Cricket Club - www.rrccrats.com.au).

FOLLOWING THE BOUNCING BURLEY: A season inside grassroots football in Western Australia. Printed in 2017.

Whether a football club is located in the city, a regional centre or a remote country town, it is the life blood of the community. It evokes a strong spirit of togetherness and the club is a meeting place for people of all ages.

Derek Mott spent the 2016 football season travelling around Western Australia, watching 102 matches from each of the 30 senior competitions. In addition, he played for 17 teams in 17 different leagues.

His book, Following the Bouncing Burley, provides a background to the competitions and clubs that he saw, reviews each league match and also looks at issues in grassroots football, including population decline, player payments and player points systems.

The book also includes every senior ladder and Grand Final result to provide a snapshot of the 2016 season.

A 32,871 kilometre journey awaits.

LEATHER AND WILLOW: A History of the Willetton Crows Cricket Club. Printed in 2013. (OUT OF STOCK).
